  4. Does Carter Lumber have a dress code?
    Yes. Store employees are required to wear Carter Lumber issued apparel, jeans and hard-soled shoes.
  5. How often are employees paid?
    Carter Lumber hourly employees are paid every other Friday for the hours worked the previous two weeks.
  6. Do you offer direct deposit?
    Yes, we do. You can have your check deposited directly into your current checking and/or savings account.
  7. To whom will I be reporting?
    Ultimately, each store position reports to the Store Manager.
  8. What are my work hours?
    Most Carter Lumber stores hold the hours of Monday- Friday 7:30am to 6pm, Saturday 7:30am-4pm, and Sunday 9am-3pm. Your schedule, which will be determined by your Manager, will vary between these hours.
  9. Will I need to work overtime?
    Availability of overtime will be determined by the Store Manager. The Carter Lumber Company adheres to the law and currently pays one-half times the regular hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in one week.
  10. How will my work be evaluated, and by whom?
    Evaluations will be given by your Store Manager. You will be evaluated based upon job performance, attendance and overall knowledge of your duties.
  11. If I have ideas, suggestions or concerns to offer, what channels exist to share them?
    Carter Lumber encourages innovative thinking from our employees. Store Managers promote teamwork and value their employees' input, which is why we have put programs into place such as "Project Teamwork" and "Problem Resolution" to encourage efficiency and productivity.

  3. I see you have a new store opening in my area. When can I apply?
    Check our Web Site on a daily basis, when the positions are posted, you may apply. When we start building the store, we start accepting applications, but interviews may not take place until the store is close to completion.

  5. How can I submit an application?
    Simply search positions and complete the online application for the career of your choice.
  6. How long does it take to complete the application process?
    Our application process has two parts; the application and a profile test. After finishing the application you will complete a profile test which takes about 15 minutes.
  7. Am I able to make changes to my resume?
    Yes. After creating an account, you can login and update your information at anytime.
  8. Why can't I submit my resume via U.S. Mail or FAX?
    Carter Lumber recruiters are constantly checking our Web Site for applicants. Using the U.S. mail system or fax could delay your application from getting into the right hands, thus causing you to miss out on an opportunity.
  9. How do I know if you received my resume via the online response form?
    You will receive an acknowledgement email after applying for a position on Carterlumber.com. A confirmation message also appears after you've successfully submitted your application.

    Mailing your resume is not necessary. Your online application is made available to our Human Resources department as well as, Managers in the field. This is the best way to ensure your information is placed in the right hands.

    A Carter Lumber Hiring Manager will be in contact with you directly should your qualifications meet our current position requirements.

    Completed resumes are permantently stored in our electronic database.

    Management positions are posted until they are filled. Since we are constantly growing and looking for motivated candidates to build their career with us, we leave store positions posted year round.
  14. Do I have to submit to any tests in order to gain employment?
    Yes you do. Every prospective employee must complete a profile test as well as pass a drug screen and a background check. CDL drivers are required to undergo additional testing in order to comply with state laws.
