  • Carter Lumber Expands in Charlotte, NC

Carter Lumber has expanded again by opening a new location on the north side of Charlotte.  The new facility, located at 4401 Pete Brown Rd in Charlotte, made its first deliveries Monday, five days after taking possession.

“Carter Lumber’s growth plan is to expand and make investments into markets within our existing footprint. Entering the Charlotte market is a natural extension of our progression in the southeast and we look forward to building relationships with customers and being the best lumberyard in the market,” said Jeff Donley President and Chief Operating Officer for Carter Lumber.

With two facilities in the market, Carter Lumber will now be able to provide service from the south side with our lumberyard in Rock Hill, SC (35 miles away) and the north side with this new location. The 14-acre full service lumberyard will offer rough framing lumber, engineered components and place a heavy emphasis on millwork products.

Managing the market operations will be a team led by Brandon Kujawski and Brian Massie.

“As we expand our southeast operations, we were looking for a location to support the growth of our core business in lumber and millwork.  Having this second location is a great start to let us work toward becoming Charlotte’s employer of choice and the professional builder’s supplier of choice,” said Kip Gleckler, Senior Vice President Field Operations for Carter Lumber.

  • Growth for Carter Lumber Akron

    Building A Strong Future

Carter-Jones to be re-branded as Carter Lumber and combine forces with Medina, OH staff

Carter Lumber has taken another step to create the area’s strongest lumberyard by combining the teams from the Medina, OH location with Carter-Jones Lumber in Akron, OH.  The new team will operate out of the original store located at 172 N. Case Avenue.  In addition, the facility will change names and operate under the Carter Lumber brand name.

“When my grandfather W. E. Carter started the company in 1932, he had the foresight to build a family business that would stand the test of time.   His philosophy was to be a leader and make changes to secure future growth.  Throughout the last few years, we have lived by these principles and have adapted our business to the ever changing needs of our customers and the markets in which we operate”, said Neil Sackett Carter Lumber Chairman & CEO.

This “new’ team will service the Akron and surrounding markets under the Carter Lumber brand name.  By combining together, customers will continue to experience all the benefits of working with one of the nation’s largest lumberyards with a much larger facility and expanded service capabilities.

Effective immediately, the Carter Lumber Medina stores will be closed and all business and employees will be transferred to the Akron location. The Medina facility has been a very successful operation that simply outgrew the confines of the location.  The newest/oldest Carter Lumber will be co-managed by Tony Shannon the current Carter-Jones General Manager and Jeff Brady from Medina.

“In evaluating the Akron market, we saw a tremendous opportunity to service customers out of a much larger facility that could handle the increased volume.  The Carter Lumber brand name is one of the strongest in the industry and we look forward combining these teams and creating the area’s best full service lumberyard”, said Jeff Donley President and COO for Carter Lumber.

  • Northeast Ohio

While we are sure everyone is sick of hearing the words “Polar Vortex”, it hasn’t stopped the progress at Carter Lumber.  In another operational move,  Carter Lumber is kicking off the year in the same manner it ended 2013, on a positive note.

Carter Lumber has announced today that they will be opening a new facility in Elyria, Ohio.  This new location will provide a better service facility for the western suburbs of Cleveland.  The store will be located at 41625 Griswold Rd, Elyria Ohio on the site previously occupied by Del Lumber.  Employees for the new location won’t have far to travel as the Carter Lumber in Sheffield Village, Ohio (3 miles away) will be closing.  While the Sheffield Village facility has been very successful, it simply outgrew the confines of the location. Carter Lumber is currently working through logistics and plans on the full service lumberyard being operational in March.

“Since 1932, Carter Lumber has called Northeast Ohio home.  By investing in our hometown, Carter Lumber is well positioned to service these markets from the west side of Cleveland, to the east side and down south into Akron” said Jeff Donley, Carter Lumber President & COO.

  • Carter Lumber Expands into Atlanta

Today we’re proud to share some great news! On Monday of this week, we opened a new location in the Atlanta, Georgia market. This location was previously the Athens Building Supply location in Winder, GA who had served the Athens, GA market for over 30 years.

As we continue to expand into new markets, we know that having high-quality people on the ground is what makes all the difference. That is why we’ve already assembled an A+ team for the Atlanta market, this includes District Manager Brian Massie, who said:

This is Carter Lumber’s first store in the state of Georgia.  As we continue to grow and open new locations, we look forward to building relationships with our customers, supporting the local communities and being the best lumberyard in the state of Georgia.

  • Reduction of Lead in water

On January 4th, 2014, The Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act goes in effect. Every home improvement retailer nationwide will be affected by this act.

What does this mean for you?

All non-compliant products will be off the shelves at Carter Lumber on January 4th, 2014. We will not sell, or install fittings, valves or fixtures that do not comply with the regulations that the federal law sets as “lead free.”

Carter Lumber will have all the help and answers you need at your local store. We will also help you figure out which products are covered by the new law, and assist you with finding replacement products for those non-compliant items.

Lead in drinking water can cause a variety of adverse health effects, from newborns to adults. Exposure to lead in drinking water above the action level in infants and children can slow down mental and physical development, along with deficits in their learning ability. With adults, this exposure can result in an increased blood pressure and even develop kidney problems.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates lead in drinking water to minimize public health problems.

  • Carter Lumber Continues to Grow

We’ve always taken a long-term approach to grow our business and nowhere has this approach been more evident than during the recent economic downturn. Our President Jeff Donley:

While many competitors were trying to survive, Carter Lumber transformed itself from a $500 million traditional lumberyard, into almost a $1 billion professional lumberyard.

As part of continuing our plan for growth, today we announced that we’ve realigned field operations and expanded our footprint into many new markets. In order to support our growth we have also had to consolidate some of our smaller market stores.
