Carter Lumber - Creating Area’s Strongest Lumberyard, Opens New Facility in Franklin, IN
Carter Lumber has taken a step toward creating Central Indiana’s strongest lumberyard by acquiring the former Davidson Lumber/Stock facility in Franklin, IN.
The 25-acre facility will feature a showroom along with truss and custom millwork manufacturing capabilities. Products that will be sold include, lumber, custom millwork, windows, doors, kitchens, trusses, panels and engineered floors.
“Having added quality outside sales people and new customers in the Indianapolis market, we have significantly increased our market share. In order to support this growth from the residential and commercial builder, we needed to invest in a top notch facility”, said Jeff Donley Carter Lumber Chief Operating Officer.
To accomplish this goal, Carter Lumber has consolidated several surrounding stores into the new Franklin facility. With a store on the north side of Indianapolis in Noblesville, IN and the new store in Franklin, Carter Lumber will provide this market with brand name products and exceptional service.

With nearly 200 facilities based primarily in the Midwest, Carter Lumber has been taking advantage of opportunities in markets abandoned by competition. For example, the company has increased market share in Columbus, Ohio, Akron, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan in part by hiring people who were laid off when competitors closed.
“There are a lot of markets that many LBM dealers have pulled out of”, said Donley. “We like to look at the big picture and feel that this is a good time to invest in these markets...we’re in a growth mode during this downturn.”
The Franklin, Indiana, Carter Lumber facility is scheduled to open before June 1, 2010.
