Carter Lumber Celebrates 75th Anniversary

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, Carter Lumber is one of the nation’s top building-materials retailers with more than 200 stores in 10 states.
Throughout the years, Carter Lumber has grown into the 17th largest building-materials dealer in North America. In addition to it’s current store growth with the professional builder, in the last three years, it has acquired three subsidiaries – Holmes Lumber in Ohio, Kight Home Center based in Indiana and Griggs Lumber headquartered in North Carolina.
Even with the company’s tremendous growth, Carter Lumber hasn’t lost sight of its history or commitment to the communities in which its stores are located. Carter Lumber is well positioned for another 75 years of growth.
“Back in 1932, my grandfather W.E. Carter started this business. His ideas was to build friendships with his customers while helping them grow their business” said Neil Sackett, president and CEO of Carter Lumber. “More than seven decades and three Carter family generations later, we remain committed to those same philosophies.”
For the past 75 years, Carter Lumber has worked with its customers to make sure they get the materials they need, when they need them. This gives Carter Lumber’s customers reason to come back, because they do better business with The Yard.
“We are committed to the success of our builders and stand behind them with quality, brand-name building materials and unparalleled customer service. Our commitment to help our customers grow is backed by a variety of strategic initiatives that will enable Carter Lumber to become a one-stop resource for our builders”, says Jeff Donley, Sr. VP and Chief Operating Officer..
These initiatives include everything from an outside sales program, installed sales services, upgraded financing options, investments in equipment, a Loyalty Rewards programs and marketing services. In addition, Carter Lumber operates four component plants in three states – Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania – which service its stores with manufactured trusses, engineered lumber and prefabricated wall panels.
“All of these initiatives have been implemented to help our customers grow their business. Today, Carter Lumber is positioning itself for the next 75 years” said Neil Sackett.
