Carter Lumber Kitchen Renovation

Every kitchen renovation will include unique details. Although there is no way to cover every possibility before you begin a kitchen renovation, the following are some of the most common procedures. If you have questions about your kitchen renovation project that aren't answered by this list, be sure to contact your local Carter Lumber store.

  • Apply for a building permit from your local municipality.
  • Take out old cabinetry, make necessary changes to plumbing and electric, and repair any damage to walls and flooring.
  • Prime and paint the walls.
  • Install ceramic tile or hardwood flooring (wait till later to install vinyl flooring).
  • Install wall cabinets first, then base cabinets and islands. Put on cabinet doors, drawers and hardware.
  • Cut plywood base for tile countertops.
  • Install recessed sink, then finish wood, marble or tile countertops.
  • Install surface-mounted sink and fittings, then garbage disposal and dishwasher.
  • Install the icemaker in the refrigerator and hood and vent for range.
  • Install the cooktop if it’s a free-standing unit, then the wall oven and microwave.
  • Put in vinyl flooring.
  • Install other appliances.
  • Add lighting fixtures and put on trim and other finishing touches.
