- Measure the space for house windows, then measure again. It is important to have accurate measurements before ordering a new or replacement window or door from Carter Lumber. Accurate measurements ensure that the new windows and doors fit properly for maximum energy savings and easy installation.
- Looking to improve ventilation? Replace fixed windows with ones that open, or add a storm door with screen to an entry door.
- Decide if you need grilles or screens for windows.

Replacement Window Measurement
- Take all measurements from inside the house.
- Find the width: measure from the inside of the jamb on one side of the window to the inside of the jamb on the other side of the window. Measure at the bottom, middle and top of the window. Use the narrowest measurement for the width of the window.
- Find the height: measure from the top of the sill to the bottom of the window's head jamb. Measure at the left, middle and right of the window. Use the shortest measurement for the height of your replacement window.
